On Rising with the Black Dog

When the spirit is lighter, the soul darkens less

And struggle is not so heavy,

Not as much duress,

And the impulse for self-destruction is fleeting.

The weaker, dark soul seeks therefore light,

And today is a looking forward

To a daytime bright,

And serial melancholy is much less wearying.
