Banality (apologies to Bob Dylan)

Come all ye plain loafers and ye politically correct

Gather around and grant me your keen attention

Disquiet is looming and I’ll articulate your unease

For the cultures they are rearranging:

Get ready to battle against a common based evil

All you lefties and righties and all in betweens

The new artificiality before balding indifference

For the cultures they are rearranging:

Now that the trivial is a massive talking point

Tourists after ice-creams pay their due respect

Mockery or deference we must try to understand

For the cultures they are rearranging:

Yes say the imitators of disposable pop music

Yes say the manufactures of kinky tee shirts

Yes say the chroniclers of everyday banalities

And the ones who put the intel in intelligence

For the cultures we are rearranging:

“We are in awe and pay you ultimate homage

Your great power and influence being our suffrage

We want to eat you and package our poo

For export and marketing, making money out of you

We’ll turn you the consumer into our brothers

And sisters; we’ll welcome you with just one kiss”

It must be satire; surely they’re taking the piss!

For the cultures they are rearranging:

Beware my friends while time fosters our grind

Banality is before us, the terror of cultural mimicry

Inspired by our fake politicians, coming from within

For the cultures they are rearranging:

In a time when our dignity shall be our despair

The desire to rediscover our roots is being undone

And the defeated showing fear will eventually win

For the cultures they are rearranging.
