On The Awakening
The experience of consolidated impressing airs,
This sense of nature’s unfailing presence,
Of its going out and in its coming in,
By night and day, a source of simple repose,
When calmness is taken confidently,
That nearness of nature is some security.
And one is ready to be safe or to meet with adversity,
If adversity, it is borne with human help,
And injury is shared with all concerned,
The worst of it may yet be conquered,
And the sting taken out all altogether,
By the hints that nature provides.
